Plans for a new two-form entry Primary School on the Surbiton Hospital site are now available and Kingston Council wants your views on who should run it.  Two proposals to run the new school have been received from Lilac Sky Schools and Surbiton Education Health Trust.

The plans for the new Surbiton School have been highly controversial with many residents concerned about the lack of space on the Surbiton Hospital site, with playgrounds on the roof of one of the buildings.  There have also been major concerns about the traffic generation and lack of parking in such an enclosed site.

Lilac Sky Schools are proposing a Primary Academy called Sky Primary Academy, while Surbiton Education Health Trust proposes a Trust School with a charitable foundation.  The consultation period runs until the 15th July.  After this all comments will be forwarded to the Schools Adjudicator who will make the decision on who will run the school.

Whoever wins the right to run the new school will need to meet the following criteria:

  • A two form entry (60 places per year) all-through primary school with attached nursery for up to 52 part-time places.

  • Reception (4 year olds) and Nursery pupils only in 2012.

  • Based on the Surbiton Hill site, alongside new healthcare facilities.

  • A Specialist Resourced Provision for up to 24 pupils with Special Educational Needs.

More information on Lilac Sky Schools, Surbiton Education Health Trust, the bid proposals and how to feed back your views can be found here.  If you have an interest in Surbiton Schools, then make sure you have your say.
