Since discovering this excellent restaurant we pop in for lunch at least every other weekend. They have a fantastic lunch deal, and the decor and ambience is first class. The wine list is very decent and the menu caters for all. My five year old daughter discovered that duck and chips is her favourite food here recently, and the chef has come up with some excellent dishes. The food is very affordable and the service is excellent. A very good find. Check it out!

Welcome to l'espérance, a traditional French restaurant with up to 65 covers. All our dishes are prepared on the premises using produce delivered fresh every day. We add a daily specials menu which is chosen to complement our à la carte menu.
We offer a range of traditional French dishes with a modern style. Each day a selection of specials is available as indicated on the blackboard in the restaurant
We have an interesting wine selection to offer our diners mostly from the vineyards across France with a few offerings from Europe and and the New World
House Wines
Sauvignon Blanc - Duc de Chapelle
Cabernet Merlot - Duc de Chapelle
Special Occasions
We are happy to host special events - Birthdays, Weddings, Anniversaries and corporate events. The restaurant is usually closed all day on Mondays and on Sunday evenings however we do take bookings for private functions on either of these days as well as during our normal opening hours.
The Building
In the first half of the last century the building was owned by Waitrose. The illustrated mirror is still a feature in the restaurant. The photograph on the left was taken from an old box of matches.
Bell Musical Instruments Limited owned the shop from the late 1960's. A much quoted fact is that Eric Clapton's first guitar was bought here by his grandparents.
Subsequently it became Liberty Bell's Restaurant then Victoriana's Italian Restaurant.
If you have any more information about the history of this building please contact us.

Have been here several times with my (much prettier) better half and I will be back again before too long! I don't think you can find a more reasonably priced weekday dinner of this quality anywhere else. Even the wine by the glass prices are incredibly reasonable.
Good service, nice ambience, good food and not pretentious. What more could you ask for? Try L'Esperance - you won't be disappointed.
