The Antelope is one of the few local pubs that haven’t gone up-market in recent years and it’s all the better for it. It’s a traditional pub with a pool table, pinball and quiz machine. There’s Sky and ESPN TV for sports coverage and food during the weekend and whenever there are events or big sports matches taking place. The food is basic, but tastes home-cooked and is good quality and value for money. The paved garden at the rear has benches and tables, but it is a little basic. There are also chairs and tables outside the front on Maple Road. Jerry the owner works hard to put on events to bring in the customers with a Quiz night every Wednesday and some excellent live singers and bands every Thursday. The bar staff here are friendly and helpful and the pub has a lovely laid back feel. Despite not having the extensive makeover of many other of the local pubs, the Antelope makes up for it with hard work and old fashioned customer service. It’s totally unpretentious and it’s a great place to relax. They have a Facebook page and you can follow them on Twitter: @The_Lope

A traditional pub with regular changes of guest beers and quality wines. A pool table, SKY TV and live music most Thursdays.
