Fancies itself too much. Utterly pretentious and overpriced for what it serves and an ovver 30s meat market at the weekends. Enjoy.

I was quite surprised about the negative reviews. Yes, the prices might be a bit higher than you regular "carpet pub" but they are still very reasonable. If you want a bargain just go to Wetherspoons! The place can get a bit crowded in the evenings but the atmosphere is lovely, people polite and I've never witnessed any incidents of drunken rudeness. A perfect place for a catch up and ideal if you want a safe environment to have a hassle free evening with your girlfriends. Not sure why would anyone say it was pretentious! Some people might be dressed in their work clothes but it's not a suit pub. Everyone seem to mind their own business, you don't get "scanned" head to toes every time you enter. Great all round pub - lovely for breakfast or evening drinks and tasty dinner menu. Got some slightly under seasoned food on an odd occasion but always served fresh.

The food and wine at Gordon Bennett's was really poor this summer, when I went with friends who were strangers to Surbiton ,they immediately noticed the cost verses really small portions .We were even served a really obvious dirty glass .bar was shabby. Have returned to the Victoria

Went to Gordon Bennett just before Christmas. I know the bar well and like it but first time I have eaten there. I thought the burger and chips were lovely. Good Quality meat in a ciabatta bun with fresh cut chips. Only complaint is that for £10 the portion was tiny, more like a child's portion. Fresh cut chip are not expensive - another handful would have made all the difference and I would have probably bought another round too!

It's weird you should mention the burgers from here because I rarely order burgers but must admit that GB do a truly great one with mozzarella cheese on ciabatta bread accompanied by delicious chunky fries and all washed down with generous glasses of wine which works a treat too!

ReportGordon Bennett’s is a bar in Maple Road. It’s decorated smartly in a contemporary style which tends to attract a thirty-to-forty-something crowd. This is surely the premier pick-up joint in Surbiton.
The good quality, but sparse furnishings mean that this bar is very noisy in the evening with people chatting and laughing. It does give the place a great atmosphere, but can get a bit too loud for some of us oldies.
The food here is more modern and a better quality than can be found at most pubs or bars and is served throughout the day. There’s a great wine list and a good selection of cocktails. Keep an eye out for deals on food and drink, especially during the early evening.
This bar may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no doubting it’s a well-run bar that has a dedicated clientele. Don’t come here if you want to watch the big match on a Sunday afternoon as this is a TV-free zone!

Stopped by here the other day whilst out walking my baby daughter and requested the veggie fritters and a latte. After being offered a higher priced meal deal than what I had actually ordered (isn't that what they do in McDonalds?) I was informed that I could not pay with my debit card as the minimum spend was £10. Are you serious chaps? Basically you refused my chosen method of payment because I wasn't spending enough money, and as a result I will eat elsewhere in future. Previous visits to this venue in the evening have revealed a cramped, noisy, impersonal space full of off-duty City types and Surbiton snobs, in many ways the perfect clientele for an establishment which clearly has ideas above it's station.

ReportSo, I've been twice both times on a weekend evening, which I'm sure has somewhat coloured my experience.... In my opinion, this is a really buzzing place bordering on the shouty (again, will re-iterate weekend visits only, could be different during the week), essentially a restaurant not a bar, where you'd go with a group of friends rather than for a romantic tete a tete coz of the noise factor. On my last visit I had the fish and chips - it was seriously delicious - and the mushy peas - which i normally hate, were divine - my friend and i both loved them - they maybe were fresh mushed peas with some leek or spring onion in there - or something - anyway - would go back just for them and that is saying something! Fish lovely and crispy - chips chunky and soggied up nicely with vinegar ketchup and mayo all provided with a smile (despite the fact we were there just as the kitchen closed at 10pm) and the wine was good too. Think the wine list could do with a bit more in the way of new world wines? Overall a positive experience and I'd go back!
My boyfriend and I go here regularly because the ambience is great, the staff are polite, friendly and welcoming and the food is really great, particularly if you get there earlyish after work when they do some great deals.
The hamburger is to die for, and this is from someone who doesn't like them!
