The Surbiton Bank building is in Ewell Road at the junction of Langley Road. The building is easily missed, but has some amazing architectural features and is a thing of real beauty. In particular around the door is highly decorative with a beautiful orange stone with figures of men straining to hold up the masonry. I have no knowledge of what bank used to be here, but the plaque says it was opened in 1904. The building is now split into two with a lettings agency on the left and an empty stationery shop on the right. The shop on the right has been empty for a couple of years. There is a big difference between the state of the outside of the left and right side of the building, with the left having been restored sometime over the last 15 years. The next time you are over that way, be sure to tackle a few minutes to check it out. Old Bank buildings are often of good architectural quality, but this building is a bit special.
