The Olympic flame passed through Surbiton on the royal barge, Gloriana, on the final leg of its 70-day journey around the UK ahead this evening's opening ceremony. Thousands packed Surbiton riverside this morning to watch Gloriana carry the flame, followed by a flotilla of smaller boats. Gloriana looked great, pulled along by its 16 oarsmen - James Cracknell, Jonny Searle and Martin Cross, the gold medal winning rowers amongst them.
The flame had started the day at Hampton Court where Matthew Pinsent carried the flame to the awaiting boat. The huge Surbiton crowd gave the flame a great send off. The flame now makes its way to City Hall, then onto Stratford and the Olympic Stadium. The Olympic cauldron will be lit as part of the opening ceremony tonight, with the final torchbearer being kept top secret. Who will it be? We'll be glued to the television tonight like everyone else. I'm no fan of opening ceremonies, much preferring the actual sport, but this is London's Olympics and I wouldn't miss it for anything.

It certainly is. David Spinx can almost always be spotted at any local community event. Seems a jolly nice guy too!
