Local charity The Fircroft Trust is the latest to benefit from the success of Surbiton’s new Farmers’ Market, which is now held regularly on the third Saturday of the month.

Based in Ditton Road, Surbiton, the charity supports adults living in the community with mental health problems and/or learning disabilities. The Famers’ Market will donate £500 to fund the replacement and installation of a polytunnel for Fircroft’s gardening project, which helps users to learn new skills, develop new interests and improve their quality of life.
The Fircroft Trust also raised around £380 from the sale of plants raised from seeds and cuttings in its greenhouse, at the March and April markets.
Each month the Farmers’ Market hosts a stall run by a local charity or fundraising organisation. Saturday’s market welcomed Yorda Adventures, a not-for-profit community organisation that works with families in and around the borough to support children and young people with disabilities.
The market, which is a community interest company run by volunteers, will also donate around £300 to fund a special lunch for the elderly at Surbiton Assembly Rooms on 19 May. More than 30 local people are expected to attend the lunch, organised under the Friendship Hour scheme, an outreach project of Surbiton High School.
