SURBITON WAITROSE TO CLOSE FOR A WEEK

Yes, I’m afraid the rumours are indeed true; Waitrose will be closed from Saturday 4th September at 8:00pm and will re-open at 8:30am on Friday 10th September.  Many of you will have noticed that the shop has been undergoing some minor renovations and changes over the last few weeks.  However, surbitonpeople paid a visit this Saturday and the changes look to be rather more extensive than we had first thought.

If you drop by Surbiton Waitrose this week you will find a leaflet by the counter at the front of the store that has details of the closing dates and times.  The leaflet also has a reminder of two of the nearby Waitrose stores (Kingston and New Malden) in case you should you need an emergency supply of houmous.  These leaflets are worth picking up as they contain a voucher that will save you £4 when you spend £20 or more at Waitrose Surbiton, New Malden or Kingston between 4th September and 18th September 2010.

One strange thing that we have noticed is that access to the car park during the closure period ‘will not be permitted’.  We haven’t found out the reason for this yet, but we will let you know as soon as we do.  We understand that when the Waitrose store was given planning permission, one of the conditions was that the car park would be available for public and it was not just for Waitrose shoppers.  Although the closure is only for a short time, the loss of the car park could have a negative effect on some of the nearby small independent shops.

We are looking forward to the new improved store.  Keep checking surbitonpeople.co.uk for the full details of the store changes.

Thanks for the info Abixxx. Sounds like a good reason to close the car park. It does indeed look like they are making big changes inside. I look forward to seeing how it ends up.

After speaking to the store manager last week, the car park has to close as they will be receiving equipment, also heavy goods vehicles and fork lifts will be operating.

They have received permission from the council to do this from what he said.

I was in there on Saturday morning and they are moving everything around. It took me ages to do the shopping. Annoyed that I missed out on the money off voucher - might have to pop in tomorrow when I'm walking past. I'll need the money to stock up on a weeks worth of ready meals to see me through until it opens again.
