The Liberal Democrats won an overall majority in Kingston and Surbiton local elections
The Liberal Democrats won the most seats, with 27 of the 48 seats giving them the overall majority; while the Conservatives won the remaining 21 seats. No other parties got enough votes to gain a seat, with Labour closest to winning a seat with 12% of the overall vote.
There are 16 wards within Kingston and Surbiton and on your ballot papers you would have been given the choice to vote for three candidates for your ward.
In many Surbiton wards the results were extremely close – for example in Berrylands, former Liberal Democrat councillor Rohan Yoganathan lost by just six votes, nudged out by Conservative Karen George, while in Alexandra there were just 19 votes separating Conservative Richard Hudson who was elected with 2,022 votes, and Ian George, who missed out with 2,003 votes. In St Mark’s Ward the Liberal Democrats swept the board with re-elections for Liz Green (formerly Shard) and Yogan Yoganathan and the election of Mary Heathcote OBE. In Surbiton Hill, the Liberal Democrats also won all three places. To see the full results for all Kingston and Surbiton wards, click on this Kingston Council link.
