Here at surbitonpeople.co.uk we get worried when changes are made to our favourite shops.  How could they possibly improve Surbiton Waitrose we were thinking?  But the latest information suggests that they will be doing exactly that!  Our only worry is how are they going to fit it all in?  We can’t wait to find out.

Waitrose Surbiton is undergoing a radical refurbishment, introducing a new ‘hospitality offer’ to the shop, and creating 15 new jobs in the process.  The store, which first opened in 1999, and its car park will be closed for essential works at 8pm on Saturday 4 September, reopening - fully transformed - on Friday 10th September at 8.30am.

Shoppers on the go will soon be able to take advantage of the new ‘Food for Now’ range, which will include paninis, sausage rolls, pastries, made in store baguettes, patisserie cakes and hot drinks.  An extra 800 new products will also be added to the shop’s already extensive range.

All the fresh food counters - meat, fish, cheese and delicatessen - will get a new look and the range of products available will increase, as will the fresh fruit and vegetable section. There will be a totally new wine department, with haberdashery, greetings cards and gift wrap also being new to the shop.

Plus, in a bid to cut its carbon emissions, all current refrigeration units at the shop will be replaced with a more environmentally friendly water cooled refrigeration system.

David Lower, Branch Manager Waitrose Surbiton, comments “It’s fantastic that the store, in only a matter of weeks, will be totally transformed. I think customers will be delighted with the new layout, the hospitality offer and new products, all of which will enhance their shopping experience at the shop.

“I’d like to thank all our customers for their patience and understanding throughout the duration of the works, especially during the five day closure. I do believe that new and improved store will be worth the wait, and I can’t wait to hear what our shoppers think of the new look Waitrose Surbiton when we open again on the 10th September.”

Surbitonpeople.co.uk will be one of the first in the door when Waitrose re-opens.  With the new ‘Food for Now’ range, we are wondering whether we will ever cook again!

Surbitonpeople .co.uk visited the refurbished Waitrose on Friday to check out the new layout. We were impressed with the new ‘food to go’ counter at the front of the shop and also the extra tills. Looking around the shop many things have just been smartened up a bit. Also the aisles look a little bit longer and some of the stock is piled a little higher. There are apparently quite a few new products for sale. It’s going to take a while to find out what the new products are and also to get used to the new layout.

What do you think of the new store?
