This morning Gordon Brown has confirmed May 6th as the date of the general election. Helen Whately is the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Kingston and Surbiton.

Message from Helen Whately, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Kingston and Surbiton, on the Announcement of the General Election

It's time for a change of Government – and voters in Kingston & Surbiton are vital to making that happen. By voting Conservative, we can help get Gordon Brown out of Downing Street.

If you elect me, I will first and foremost be a good local MP. I’ve been working hard for you as a voluntary candidate - as your MP I would be able to do so much more.

I’ve already given Kingston & Surbiton the voice we need in the Conservative Party - winning the backing of Shadow Ministers for our hospitals, schools, and transport. As your MP, I will give Kingston & Surbiton a voice in a Conservative Government. No other MP candidate in this Constituency can offer this.

When election day comes, please - make your vote count. If you want a change of Government, if you want a Government that cares about this Constituency, if you want an MP to give you a voice in that Government - vote Conservative.

Helen Pledges to:

- Be a committed local MP, here to help and support our community

- Give Kingston & Surbiton a voice in Parliament and with David Cameron

- Continue to fight for local people

- Be entirely open about my work and expenditure as your MP

Helen, will you fight to re-zone Surbiton station (zone five from zone six)? And what about council taxes? Will they remain as high as they are?
