Most of the General Election results are in and it’s congratulations to Ed Davey who has won the Kingston and Surbiton seat for the Liberal Democrats, taking 49.78% of the vote.

The Conservatives, with Helen Whately, increased their share compared with 2005, gaining 36.54% of the vote. More than 57,000 people voted in the General Election in Kingston and Surbiton which is 70.4%, a slight increase from the 68.9% of people who voted at the last election.

Here are the results for the other seven candidates in Kingston and Surbiton:

* Max Freedman (Labour) gained 5,337 votes, a 9.3% share of the vote

* Jonathan Greensted (UKIP) gained 1,450 votes, a 2.5% share of the vote

* Chris Walker (Green) gained 555 votes, a 1% share of the vote

* Anthony May (Christian People’s Alliance) gained 226 votes

* Monkey the Drummer (Monster Raving Loony) gained 247 votes

All the parties except the Liberal Democrats and Labour garnered slight increases in the number of votes they received in this, the closest fought election in many years.

In the nearby constituency of Richmond Park, Conservative Zac Goldsmith has narrowly beaten incumbent Susan Kramer (Liberal Democrat), taking 49.71% compared with 42.81% for the Liberal Democrats.

Nationally, the Conservatives have so far won 285 seats (an increase of 87), Labour have won 235 (a decrease of 81) and the Liberal Democrats have won 50 seats (six down). There are still 52 seats that have not yet been announced so no party can yet be declared the winner.
