The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton will be celebrated throughout Britain with a Bank Holiday on Friday 29th April.  As Easter falls the weekend before with May Day on the following Monday it means that many people will enjoy two four-day weekends in a row.

But will anything be happening in Surbiton?  As far as we know, Kingston Council has no plans for any public celebrations, although they say they will help community groups to organise their own celebrations.

Now I realise that this is going to make me sound old, but I do remember the 1977 celebrations of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee.  There were many street parties and I have fantastic memories of the fun and togetherness that it brought about.  Times have obviously moved on so I am wondering whether many events will take place.

There are already threats of strikes by British Airways workers and tube drivers, so perhaps it’s a good time to stay local.  The Government has produced a simple step by step guide to how to hold a street party.  It includes one simple form for you to use to let your local authority know about your plans, so you can get on with the real work of organising a fun event.  You can find information for organising your own street party on the Kingston Council website.

Are you already planning a local celebration or would you like an organised even to be held in central Surbiton?  Please let us know.

Who honestly gives a toss about a royal wedding? Two people none of us have ever met. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY. Makes my blood boil all these idiots latching onto the bandwagon. Same people that will be buying the ****** specially commissioned china plates. NO STREET PARTY IN SURBITON please. Go to The Mall if you really have to be involved.
