I don’t think that the money would be available from anywhere at the moment or even in the foreseeable future. A cable car like the one Boris is considering for central London would be good. Or maybe a cannon to shoot people across the river?

If there is enough interest, I think funding can be found. The foot bridge would reduce car use and increase cycling/walking so could be incorporated into the borough's sustainable transsport policy. These types of projects are being prioritised at the moment. As the bridge would span Kingston and Richmond boroughs, the costs could be shared, thereby softening the blow to any one borough.

I'd love to think this is true and has at least some chance of coming to fruition, but the council can't even afford christmas lights in Surbiton. Although I'm not sure why not.

A reliable ferry service would be a help. Been down to Rod Stewart's, sorry Ron Stewart's boat yard a few times to use the ferry there. I managed to get only one way once... great.

I guess that a ferry service isn’t financially viable, although if it ran just during Spring/Summer maybe it would be. It’s a shame that the Council sold off the Island near Harts Boatyard as two small bridges with the island in the middle would be much cheaper than one big bridge. That would have made the building on the island much more viable than it has been up until now and a real tourist attraction.
