I live in King Charles road and I am totally fed up with the traffic speeding along my road. There is a 20mph speed limit there and has been for quite some time now, no-one takes any notice of it, even the emergency services have been seen speeding along King Charles road, what's the point of having a reduced speed limit when it isn't policed or enforced?

The police have stated that they don't have the manpower to 'police' these new 20mph areas. At one time they requested that the Council did not put in a 20mph area unless they put in a way of reducing speed, such as humps or chicanes. However, the Council decided to go ahead anyway. Is it time to give up on 20mph roads? Or put in more humps?

I live on Adelaide RD. it is a long, straight and narrow road with parked cars either side with no speed humps or chicanes. The speed cars travel at down this road is sometimes incredible. There would be no warning if a child was to step out from behind a car and no where for the car to swerve to avoid. It is only a matter of time.

We have recently had very disruptive gas works going on which has resulted in the road being dug up in places. The good thing is that drivers have had to slow down.

I would like to see some kind of speed restriction system in place on Adelaide Rd.

I know what you mean Seven 21 .. I would like to see places made safe like what the council has done in Wolverton Ave near Norbiton Station. They have put in place measures that make the road 'people friendly' with a 20mph limit, people have right of way, not cars, surprisingly! This would be ideal in a lot of our roads, they have it in America and seeing this country follows them, why can't we have the same?

The 'people friendly' roads near Norbiton Station are called Home Zones. They were the next big thing to be done by the Coucnil several years ago. They merge the pavements and roads together and have lots of planting and parking that straight road up to prevent speeding. On the whole they have proved to be quite popular; certainly more popular than strraight forward speed humps. However, the Council have stopped building them due to the building costs involved. For the Home Zones that already exist, the planting is now been reduced or paved over because of the extra running costs. Sorry to break the bad news, but it seems unlikely that Kingston Council will be building any more in the near future.

A Home zone would be ideal. The Home zone at Norbiton looks and works really well. You certainly would n't use that road for a quick short cut and it does really does deter traffic from using it unless necessary. I appreciate that is never going to happen on Adelaide rd, but seriously, laying a couple of speed bumps would help at the very least.
