THE GREEN FAIR, KINGSTON - public meeting - Wednesday 6th February - 8pm - Kingston Environment Centre
A chance to join in a community project to research and celebrate Kingston's Green heritage.
The Kingston Green Fair was started in 1987 by a small community frustrated with eighties apathy towards environmental issues. It brought together a collective of what were then considered radical, if not revolutionary, interest groups ... Friends of the Earth, the Peace council, woodcraft folk.
The first Green Fair was held in 1987 on Canbury Gardens by the Thames, and in its heyday this remarkable annual event celebrated green thinking with up to 25,000 people. But two successive years of rain stopped play in 2008.
We've been granted Heritage Lottery funding to research the origination, thinking and impact of that first Fair and its legacy. We want to collect oral and physical history. We want to capture and celebrate memories. We want your help.
Come along to find out how you can get involved in this exciting new community project to make sure these achievements are not forgotten.
Wednesday 6th February - 8pm - Kingston Environment Centre, Fairfield East, Kingston, KT1 2PT
