The Queen Elizabeth II Challenge mirrors the memorial project created by the Fields in Trust following King George V's death in 1936. 471 parks and playing fields and children playgrounds were dedicated in perpetuity as King George V Playing Fields.
The Queen Elizabeth II Fields Challenge aims to protect 2012 outdoor recreational spaces throughout the UK. The winning outdoor spaces will be protected from future development or other uses. As reported by Surbitonpeople in April, two of the parks up for the award are in Surbiton – Claremont Gardens (KT6 4BN) and Alexandra Recreational Ground (KT5 9BE).
The two sites receiving the highest number of public votes will become the Queen Elizabeth II Fields in their area. Click here for more details of the Surbiton Parks. The vote starts now and will last for 4 weeks. Results will be announced in mid November.
You can vote for Surbiton's Claremont Gardens or Alexandra Recreational Ground here. Let's support our local parks and prevent them from future development. Vote now!
