A pregnant woman was attacked in Victoria Road, Surbiton last night.  The attack took place about 10pm on Sunday night, when a man threw punches at a pregnant woman and her two friends outside Sainsbury's in Victoria Road.

The man who was wearing a black jacket reportedly attacked the pregnant woman without provocation.  She bent over to protect her unborn baby and seemingly didn't get too hurt.  However, she was checked-out in the ambulance for over an hour and then taken off to Kingston Hospital for further checks as she was feeling some stomach pains.  The pregnant woman is 33 weeks pregnant, so hopefully she was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons rather than anything more serious.  Her two female friends received superficial injuries while trying to protect her.

It was reported that many onlookers refused to get involved before an unknown man eventually came to the rescue, punching the attacker to the ground.  The attacker then escaped by running towards Claremont Road, where it is believed he jumped on a bus bound for Kingston.

Kingston Police arrived at the scene and took statements from those who witnessed the attack.  They are hoping to find an image of the man from CCTV cameras on the bus.  It is possible he boarded a bus bleeding or out of breath.  If you saw the attacker or have any further information you can contact the Police by dialling 101; the new non-urgent alternative to 999.  It would be great to catch the scumbag!

Let's hope that the pregnant young woman is in good health and that everything goes as planned with her pregnancy.
