Two goals each from Surbiton pair James Tindall and Richard Alexander helped England to a comprehensive win over France in the Euro Hockey Nations Championships.  England romped to an 8 – 1 win, with the help of the four goals from the two Surbiton Hockey Club players.

England now moves into the semi-finals, where they play against Germany on Friday.  The Surbiton duo starred in the match against France, with the highlight being an amazing Richard Alexander diving goal.  The England team, who had been concerned about their lack of scoring from penalty corners, scored from a penalty corner early on in the game and never looked back.  Most of the goals came late on in the game, when France started to lose heart.

It's great to see the two Surbiton based players doing so well on the European stage.  Good luck to them in the semi-final on Friday.  The game will be shown live on the BBC website.

Unfortunately England lost to Germany 3-0 in the semi-final. It was actually a much closer game than the score suggests. England were 1-0 down when play was stopped for over an hour because of rain flooding the pitch. The organisers didn't make plans for this apparently and were forced to try and clear the pitch with up-turned tables! Surbiton's top international hockey players can now concentrate on the upcoming season and on preparing for the 2012 Olympic games.
