Surbiton's Police might soon be wearing their uniform on the way to work if an initiative by our local GLA representative, Tony Arbour, is taken up.

Is this a good way of increasing the Police presence on the streets of Surbiton?
At Mayor's Question Time, Surbiton's GLA representative Tony Arbour won Mayor Boris Johnson's support for the idea of police wearing their uniforms to work. Speaking at City Hall, Mr Arbour, the Assembly member for Surbiton, Kingston, Richmond and Hounslow, asked: "Do you think it's a good idea that police officers on their way to work should wear their uniforms as it increases the visibility of the police and gives confidence to the public?"
Mayor Boris Johnson responded by saying that it was a very interesting proposal and one that he had raised during the recent interview of the new Metropolitan Police Commissioner. Boris said "The idea of expanding the police presence is worth considering… It's a good idea, but needs to defeat several current objections."
Tony Arbour said: "Police officers should be proud to be members of the force. Adopting this measure will demonstrate this pride as well as reassuring Londoners and deterring criminals."
