Surbiton People is backing Chemmy Alcott to win ITV's Dancing on Ice competition. Surbiton's Chemmy has been the number one British woman skier for a record seven years, and we're sure she'll be great on the ice too.

Surbiton People backing Chemmy Alcott to win the Dancing on Ice crown
Chemmy Alcott grew up locally and attended Surbiton High School as a child. She excelled from a very young age, although her skiing career almost ended when she broke her neck at the age of twelve. She soon recovered though and broke into the GB Olympic Ski team in her teens, at the same time as gaining four A grade A levels. Chemmy has returned to Surbiton High School several times in recent years to meet and encourage some of the current pupils.
Chemmy has had a tough year in 2011; missing out the entire season through injury. She has been concentrating on recovering from a broken leg (in two places!), that she received in a World Cup downhill race. She's now well on her way back to full fitness, however during her training for the Dancing on Ice programme she said she has been scared of injuring herself again with a fall.
Some people have criticized Chemmy for taking part in the ITV programme, saying that she can't be taking her skiing seriously any longer if she is willing to risk further injury on the show. However, Chemmy has defended herself well by saying she has not quit her first love skiing. After her horrendous crash last year, she has found ice skating is enabling her to find the link between my head and metal-strengthened right leg. She also highlighted the need for her to raise the cash to ski for Great Britain. It costs her a minimum of £90,000 each year to compete and Dancing on Ice is a chance she couldn't turn down. Chemmy is determined to return to skiing stronger and better than ever.
Dancing on Ice is hosted by skating greats Torvill and Dean. Other celebrities taking part include Jennifer Ellison, Rosemary Conley, Jorgie Porter and Chico! Both Keith Chegwin and Chesney Hawkes had to pull out with serious injuries. Chemmy is partnered by Canadian skating champion, Sean Rice, who last year danced with Angela Rippon.
So we wish Surbiton's very own Chemmy Alcott all the best for the rest of the programme. We're sure she'll do herself and Surbiton proud. We believe that she is also being supported by one of her royal friends Zara Phillips, who has said that she'll be attending the studios to support her.
We want the whole of Surbiton to join our campaign and back Chemmy to win the Dancing on Ice 2012 title. All together now - Come of Chemmy!!!!
Comments
I'm a bit late to comment on this as Chemmy was voted out of the competition last week. That was a shame, but to be honest she did very well to get so far (last 5 I believe) and she lasted much longer than some other celebrities who were initially much better than her. She says that the competeition has improved her confidence in her leg that she injured a while ago. One of the reasons that Chemmy took part in the programme was to raise money so that she can continue to ski for Great Britain. We wish Chemmy the best of luck getting back to her best on the ski slopes for the upcoming ski season.
