A Surbiton High School pupil has qualified for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Danusia Francis has been named in the Great Britain Gymnastic squad following her outstanding performance at the World Championships in Japan a couple of months ago.

Danusia commented, "Competing in the World Championships was the most exciting experience and I will never forget that feeling of excitement when we realised that we had qualified as a team for 2012. The Olympics has always been my overall goal and so to make the team would be a dream come true. Coming back from Japan has made me even more determined and motivated to make that dream a reality."
This is no flash in the pan success for Danusia who trains for four evenings a week after school as well as at weekends. Last year she won a silver medal at the Women's Artistic Gymnastic Championships, Gold at the Senior English Championships and Gold at the Floor & Vault School Competition. She was also crowned the British Champion (Floor) in 2009.
Danusia is part of the Gifted and Talented programme at Surbiton High School. The programme is tailor made for young athletes who are keen to progress to the highest level and who also want to study.
It's great news to hear of yet another Surbiton connection to the London Olympic Games. We already have the Surbiton Hockey Club players, Mo Sbihi (rower), the Olympic Flame and the Cycling Road Race. Good luck to Danusia in 2012.
