Surbiton Farmers Market in the final

Surbiton Farmers' Market could be in line to scoop the prestigious Farmers' Market of the Year award after reaching the national finals.  The 2012 FARMA Awards will be presented by Clarissa Dickson Wright of 'Two Fat Ladies' fame on January 31st.

Surbiton is up against six other finalists for the awards that are due to be presented at the glittering awards ceremony in Edinburgh.  The other finalists are: Ely, Lewes, Moseley, Queen's Park, Saint Ives (Cambridgeshire) and Stratford-upon-Avon. 

After winning at the Kingston Business Awards last year, we shouldn't be surprised that Surbiton farmers' market is in the running for another award.  However, this is a major national award organised by the National Farmers' Retail and Markets Association, so they will be up against some strong opposition.  No doubt many of the other markets will be much larger than the one in Surbiton.  But the organisers of 'our' market can boast some amazing success with involving the local community; and of raising cash (over £20,000 so far!) to help local charities and good causes. 

Getting to the final hasn't been easy and all of the finalists have been checked out by mystery shoppers as part of the judging process.  We wish the organisers of the market all the best for the upcoming awards ceremony.
