Nearly half of Tolworth was left without power after a major fault with an an underground electrical system.

Nearly 26 businesses on Tolworth Broadway ran the risk of losing money thanks to no power.  Internet networks were also affected.

Earlier this morning, disgruntled owners of the Rose Bakery said: "This is simply not on, we deal with cakes and we have fridges and deliveries to make and there is a risk  to us losing money."

Next door to the cafe, workers at Burns and Mason Fireplaces said: "We've lost customers because our business relies on people looking at the shop window, but of course none of our merchandise is working."

Losing customers was also a problem for people in Lords Estate Agents: "We haven't been able to receive emails because the Internet isn't working, so we're not able to work and find out about anyone wanting an evaluation."

The electricity board confirmed there was a power shortage between 9am and 2pm this afternoon.
