The new  school being built on the old Surbiton Hospital site is set to open for business in about 10 month's time.  It will be named Lime Tree Primary School, initially offering 60 reception and 26 nursery places.

The Surbiton School will eventually cater for 420 pupils, as well as 21 pupils with Special Educational Needs.  The school is much needed in the Surbiton area after the school places shortage first hit a few years ago.  However the school, which will share the site with a new local health facility, has been the subject of much criticism by local residents and politicians.

Many people say that there just isn't enough space on the chose site, with some of the school children forced to play on a rooftop playground.  There are also plenty of local residents who have warned of traffic gridlock, once the school and health centre open.

The new school will be run by a partnership between the Kingston Council, Kingston NHS, Your Healthcare and South West London Health Partnerships.  If you are interested in applying for your child to have a reception place at Lime Tree Primary starting in September 2012, click here for more details.
