Enjoy Chinese New Year celebrations in Surbiton!
The Surbiton area is well served with good quality Chinese restaurants and take-aways. In Surbiton town centre we have the Magic Wok in Central Parade, 5 Saint Mark's Hill. It's a large family-run restaurant that's been in Surbiton since 1988. The menu has everything you might expect from a Chinese restaurant and is good quality too. There is also a take away service with a discount of 10% on orders over £15.
Yumcha is probably the next best known Chinese restaurant in Surbiton. It's based in a large shop on the corner of Brighton Road and Balaclava Road. It's more modern looking than the Magic Wok and is a nice place to spend an evening. They often have special offers, so keep an eye out for those. Although the restaurant looks modern, the food is quite traditional British-Chinese food.
There are three other Chinese restaurants in Surbiton: Lee Yuan in St James Road and Kum Hong at 292 Ewell Road. Lee Yuan is a small restaurant with a decent menu, but rarely seem to have many people eating there. I visited for a bowl of noodles last month and the food was of good quality and the staff very polite. This small restaurant would be ideal if you and your friends wanted to take over the whole restaurant. They don't sell alcohol, but are happy for you to bring your own. Kum Hong on Ewell Road (down the hill) is another traditional Chinese restaurant that has been in place for some time. This restaurant seems to do a roaring take-away trade.
There are plenty of take-aways around, although we haven't visited them all. Let us know which ones are your favourites. We have visited, and can recommend: Oriental Express (110 Ewell Road),
Hong Kong House (Brighton Road), Kwun Sing (Surbiton Road) and Wan's (Surbiton Road). Others are Surbiton Chinese takeaway in Berrylands Road and the Tolworth Fish Bar (it also sells Chinese food!) in Red Lion Road.
Celebrate the year of the Dragon here in Surbiton. I'm off for a quick 17, 49 and prawn crackers!
