Buying Fireworks in Surbiton

Are you buying fireworks in Surbiton?  If you don't fancy one of the organised displays, then Surbitonpeople lists the best fireworks and best deals in Surbiton.

I remember when I was a small kid and Guy Fawkes night was always celebrated with a box of Standard fireworks, a couple of packets of sparklers and a hot-dog, that my mum used to cook.  The box of Standard fireworks in my youth contained exciting things like Catherine Wheels, Rockets, Jumping Jacks and Rainbow Showers.

These days, the fireworks are more likely to be made by Brightstar/Starburst, will almost certainly be half-price and have names such as Total Annihilation, Stairway to Hell, Armageddon, 666 Satan's Mark and the ever-so delightful Satanic Desecration!  I can't help but find these firework names rather depressing.

Waitrose in Claremont Road have a good selection of boxes ranging from £15 to £50.  They sell Bulldog fireworks that are part of a Buy One Get One Free deal at the moment.  I bought some of these last year and they seemed to be a decent quality.

Sainsbury's in Victoria Road also have a BOGOF deal on their Standard fireworks, with packets of four rockets costing £10 and selection boxes and multi-shot fireworks ranging from £20 to £85.  They seemed to be selling fast today and the choice wasn't as good as it could be.  Rather helpfully, Sainsbury's produce a leaflet that rates their fireworks on a Wow factor, and a Noise factor – with a 1 Noise factor being marked as 'pet friendly'.

Martin's newsagent opposite Surbiton station is advertising up to 60% off selected lines of fireworks.  However, annoyingly (everything about this shop annoys me!) they didn't have any on show or any detailed posters or leaflets of what they were selling.

Londis has two shops (Surbiton Road and Ewell Road) selling Bright Star and Esco fireworks.  They are all half-price and they do have some rather unusual looking ones like the odd looking Funky Frog Fountain.  Both shops had a good selection when we visited earlier today.

Budgens at 374 Ewell Road are selling Bright Star and Esco fireworks at mostly half-price.  Five rockets cost between £2.99 and £5.99 per pack.  Selection pack s cost between £4.99 and £24.99.  Giant sparklers are just 99p per pack.

Lastly, there is a small unnamed newsagent next to Budgens which seems to have a very wide range of Bright Star fireworks.  They are half-price and look very loud!  This is the place to come if you fancy celebrating Guy Fawkes Night with some 'Satanic Desecration'.

Whether you are buying your own or attending an organized display, Surbitonpeople wishes you all a Happy Guy Fawkes Night!
